Whenever you record music you did not write, you need to get
permission from the copyright holder. This is true even if you are giving away
your recording. Getting permission involves contacting the copyright holders for
each song and it can be a real pain if you haven't done a lot of this. Every day we help schools, churches, community groups, and
independent artists get permission to record their versions of songs that
someone else wrote, also known as cover songs. For example, if your group wants
to record its performance of Billy Joel's And So It Goes we can help you
get permission to do this legally.
First, we ask you some questions about your project and about the songs you want
to license. You can buy right away for the fastest delivery, or wait for us to
research the copyright holders of the songs. You can pay online or over the
phone with a credit card. After we receive your payment, we follow the
Compulsory Law to obtain
your mechanical licenses for you. We deliver
Proof of Licensing in 1-2 business days. This is what you keep on hand or
give to your manufacturer as proof that you have done things legally.
If you need to use music for a
video, use recordings that other people made, or broadcast music live over the
web or radio, unfortunately we cannot help you get that permission. However, we
are happy to answer any questions you have related to licensing. We will always
do our best to clarify your needs and get you pointed in the right direction.
