Licensing for Stage Skip Navigation LinksAbout > Music Licensing > For Stage

If you are perform a live theatrical musical production on stage, such as My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, or The Phantom of the Opera, you need a Theatrical License. You do not need to license a show that you created yourself or songs that you know are in the Public Domain.

Expect to pay a fee based on the number of performances, ticket prices, and sales.

Theatrical licenses are custom-negotiated upfront with the copyright holder. We do not offer custom-negotiated licenses at this time. To obtain a license, contact the copyright holder directly, or contact their agency. A list of agencies that can help you get this permission is available here. For several popular Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, visit RNH.com.

For non-theatrical stage performances, see Public Performance Rights.
